Sharon October 25th, 2007
Sharon Himes pursues her curiosity into several fields of interest . In college she majored in theater and art with set design her primary focus . After a job in radio and television production, she bought an art gallery on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. There her interest in nature led to a passion for painting transparent watercolors.
For 15 years she managed a growing art gallery and frame shop before she sold it to build the Treehouse Studio and pursue her painting and other interests full time.
Pen and ink drawings by Sharon Himes illustrate articles in several nature publications, and full page illustrated maps are found in John V. Dennis’ book The Great Cypress Swamps. In September 1990, the article “Sharon Himes: A Woodland Artist” was featured in Watercolor ‘90, an American Artist magazine publication.
An interest in regional history led to the discovery of the account of a seventeenth century castaway. Using the account as a base, she researched, wrote and illustrated Cavalier’s Adventure, the story of Henry Norwood, released in 2000. In 1999 she researched and painted a mural at the Furnace Town Historic Site that shows the area in 1830.
A chapter with her watercolors and instruction is featured in the book Watercolor Flower Painter’s Handbook.
For the past 5 years Sharon Himes has conducted seminars and hands-on watercolor workshops across several eastern states. Her varied background and experience has made her a popular instructor with artists at all levels of experience.
In 1995 Sharon founded the ArtCafe Artists’ Network, an online community for artists and friends.Â
She writes articles on art history and art techniques and participates in ArtBoard discussions. The site, free and designed for artists at all levels has been recognized by major art magazines.
